Making A DecisionThere are many important decisions you make as you go throughout your life. But there will never be a more important decision for you than the one that has to do with your relationship with Jesus Christ and your eternal destiny, where you will go when you die.
The Bible tells us there is only one way to heaven and that is through faith in Jesus Christ. In order that we might have a relationship with God and go to heaven when we die, God has provided a plan.
John 14:6I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Acknowledge Your SinfulnessThe Bible tells us we are all sinners.
Romans 3:23For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
1 John 1:8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Our sins have dire consequences.
Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We must not only acknowledge our sins but we must confess them.
1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.
Repent Of Your SinActs 3:19Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.
Repentance is more than merely being sorry for our sins. Repentance is turning away from our sins and turning to God. It is a change of heart and mind that results in a change of action and conduct. Repentance is necessary if we would experience God’s forgiveness and new life.
Luke 13:3Unless you repent, you too will all perish.
Believe In Jesus ChristJohn 3:16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
To believe in Jesus Christ is more than to give intellectual ascent to Him. It is to put your trust in Him, to commit your way to Him, to surrender your life to Him. It is to believe that He died to provide forgiveness for your sins, and that He rose from the dead to give you eternal life.
Acts 16:31Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
Invite Him Into Your LifeYou might pray a prayer something like this: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I believe that you died for my sins. I am sorry for my sins and I ask you to forgive me. I turn away from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I put my faith and trust in you, and accept you as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
Romans 10:10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
John 1:12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
Have AssuranceIf you have truly confessed your sins and accepted Jesus into your heart God’s Holy Spirit will give you an inner assurance that you have been saved and that you are now a child of God. That assurance will continue with you as long as you abide in Jesus and allow Him to abide in you.
Romans 10:13Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
1 John 5:12-13He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
